This was done as a token of the esteem in which he and his work in mechanics are held in Europe and in recognition of his tireless leadership of EUROMECH, as a Chairman of the EUROMECH Committee from the earliest days until 1988.

This was done to recognize his long and invaluable support of the work  in the EUROMECH Committee and of mechanics in Europe more generally and his key role in providing a bridge between Easter and Wester scientists over many difficult years.
